Water Prairie Weekly Newsletter - 4/3/26

A breath of Spring (and a tiny "pause") 🌷

A warm welcome to the new members of our community! I’ve had several of you join us this past week through the IEP Checklist, and I am so glad you’re here. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis or you’re a seasoned advocate, this is a space built specifically for you.

Happy Good Friday! With Easter just two days away, I’ve decided to take a small "Sabbath" from the podcast this week. Instead of rushing a conversation into your ears, I’m taking this weekend to finish editing a very important episode while spending some much-needed time with my family.

But just because the podcast is on a one-week "intermission" doesn't mean things aren't moving behind the scenes!

Catch Up on Past Conversations

If you’re new here (or just looking for some weekend listening), you can find our full archive of over 150 episodes at waterprairie.com/listen. From IEP deep-dives to personal stories of resilience, there is a wealth of support waiting for you there.

Spring is in the Shop! 🎨

I’ve been busy in the Water Prairie Etsy shop, creating new designs for Spring and Mother’s Day. I’m rolling out new options almost every day this month in preparation for the Disability & The Church conference later in April.

Will I see you at the Conference? ⛪

If you are attending the conference later this month, please make sure to stop by the Water Prairie table to say hello!

I’ll be officially launching the Inclusion Lab Collaborative Learning Card Deck that week. It’s a tool I’ve worked on for months to help churches and community groups understand what true inclusion looks like. Come try a "mini-session" with the cards at the table!

Coming Up Next Friday...

The podcast will resume next week with a guest I know you’re going to want to hear from. I’ll be joined by Ann Hynek for a raw and necessary conversation: "Why Special Needs Parents Are Financially Burned Out — And What to Do About It." Wishing you a beautiful, restorative Easter weekend filled with hope and peace.

Have a great week!

From 1916 Room Service to the 2026 IEP Table 🍽️ 1916 Hotel Silver by Reed & Barton I’m writing to you today from a very cluttered desk! Between final preparations for the Disability & the Church conference next week and a stack of tarnished silver waiting for the "Touch of Tartar" workshop, my hands (and my schedule) are quite full. I have to share a quick "restoration win" with you. I’ve been researching a $5 estate sale find—a piece of hotel silver by Reed & Barton. It was so heavily...

A Sunday "Pause" (and the reality of Financial Burnout) 📉 Happy Sunday! It has been a beautiful, busy family weekend over here—so busy, in fact, that I’m landing in your inbox a couple of days later than usual. But honestly? Sometimes prioritizing family is the best way to combat the exact topic we’re diving into this week: Burnout. While we often talk about the emotional weight of caregiving, there is a specific, heavy exhaustion that often goes unnamed: Financial Burnout. In this week’s...

From tarnished to treasure (plus a "compliant" failure) ✨ Lately, my husband Steve and I have been spending our weekends on a bit of a treasure hunt. We’ve started visiting estate sales and thrift shops, looking specifically for the "tarnished" items—the silver and metal pieces that have lost their luster over the years. We’re using the science of cream of tartar (of all things!) to restore them. It’s been so much fun learning about the different silver plate makers' marks and watching a...
