A Sunday "Pause" (and the reality of Financial Burnout) 📉

Happy Sunday! It has been a beautiful, busy family weekend over here—so busy, in fact, that I’m landing in your inbox a couple of days later than usual.

But honestly? Sometimes prioritizing family is the best way to combat the exact topic we’re diving into this week: Burnout.

While we often talk about the emotional weight of caregiving, there is a specific, heavy exhaustion that often goes unnamed: Financial Burnout.

In this week’s podcast episode, I sat down with Ann Hynek, founder of Hestia Wealth & Wellness, to discuss what she calls the "Disability Squeeze." It’s that double-edged pressure of skyrocketing out-of-pocket costs combined with the reduced earning power of parents who scale back work to manage care.

If you’ve felt like you’re running on empty, you aren’t imagining it. But there is a way to move from survival to stability.

Inside This Episode:

  • The "Disability Squeeze": Why identifying this specific pressure is the first step toward reclaiming your peace.
  • The Millionaire Myth: Why you don't need a private jet to need a Special Needs Trust (and how to fund one).
  • Naming the Burnout: Why it’s okay to admit the financial side of advocacy is exhausting.
  • Practical First Steps: Ann shares judgment-free ways to start your financial inventory today.

Coming Up: The Disability & The Church Conference! ⛪

I’m currently prepping my table for the conference later this month! If you’ll be there, please come say hello. I'll be featuring:

  • The official launch of the Inclusion Lab Card Deck.
  • New Spring designs in the Water Prairie Etsy Shop.
  • Special watercolor card sets by my daughter, Emily, to help fund her upcoming Accessibility Consulting business!

Thank you for being part of this community and for your patience as I took a little extra "family time" this weekend. I hope your Sunday is full of rest!

With gratitude,

Have a great week!

From 1916 Room Service to the 2026 IEP Table 🍽️ 1916 Hotel Silver by Reed & Barton I’m writing to you today from a very cluttered desk! Between final preparations for the Disability & the Church conference next week and a stack of tarnished silver waiting for the "Touch of Tartar" workshop, my hands (and my schedule) are quite full. I have to share a quick "restoration win" with you. I’ve been researching a $5 estate sale find—a piece of hotel silver by Reed & Barton. It was so heavily...

A breath of Spring (and a tiny "pause") 🌷 This painting was made by my daughter, Emily, when she was in middle school. Watch for her designs on the Water Prairie Etsy Shop! A warm welcome to the new members of our community! I’ve had several of you join us this past week through the IEP Checklist, and I am so glad you’re here. Whether you’re navigating a new diagnosis or you’re a seasoned advocate, this is a space built specifically for you. Happy Good Friday! With Easter just two days away,...

From tarnished to treasure (plus a "compliant" failure) ✨ Lately, my husband Steve and I have been spending our weekends on a bit of a treasure hunt. We’ve started visiting estate sales and thrift shops, looking specifically for the "tarnished" items—the silver and metal pieces that have lost their luster over the years. We’re using the science of cream of tartar (of all things!) to restore them. It’s been so much fun learning about the different silver plate makers' marks and watching a...
